Scholarship Terms and Guidelines

  • Scholarships are disbursed over a student’s first four consecutive fall/spring semesters, in four equal installments (e.g., fall 2023, spring 2024, fall 2024, and spring 2025) unless otherwise noted on your admissions letter.

  • Scholarships cannot be used toward summer term tuition unless you are graduating in the summer term.

  • If this applies to you, you must email schar@gmu.edu at least two semesters before you plan to graduate to request an accommodation.

  • Scholarship recipients must maintain a 3.2 GPA throughout the duration of the award.

  • Scholarships may be used only toward Schar School tuition or Schar School study abroad tuition and cannot be applied to any university fees.

  • There is no minimum credit load to qualify for your scholarship. Scholarship awards apply only to tuition expenses. Any unused scholarship amount in each semester is nonrefundable and forfeited.

  • If your domicile status changes (e.g., out-of-state to in-state), your scholarship award will update to reflect that change. You must notify schar@gmu.edu when your domicile changes.

  • Receipt of an admissions merit award does not preclude you from applying for other Mason scholarships or fellowships (subject to the limitations of those awards).
