The Office of International Medical Policy
The Office of International Medical Policy houses the George Mason School of Public Policy's study of global medical and public health policies. From fighting the AIDS pandemic to guarding against the threat of bioterrorism, the Office of International Medical Policy works to build bridges between doctors and nurses and non-medical professionals making decisions at all strata of government to craft the smartest public health policies possible.
The Office of International Medical Policy conducts research and courses in conjunction with representatives from private health networks and multinational organizations such as the World Bank and Pan-American Health Organization. It also works with U.S. agencies such as the Department of Health and Human Services and the Agency for International Development along with several medical societies to explore issues such as how to deliver health services to extreme environments, such as areas devastated by natural disasters.
"Our faculty and students are committed to facilitating the development of global health policies that apply to a 21st century world,'' says Arnauld Nicogossian, a medical doctor who started the program after spending three decades at The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), where he managed international ground- and space-based experiments in life sciences and biotechnology.
