Malcolm P. McLean Scholarship and Award in Transportation Policy, Operations, and Logistics
Malcom P. McLean (1913-2001) is known as the "father of containerization," and his technology revolutionized the shipping industry. In 1956, he developed the metal shipping container which allowed the easy transfer of containerized freight between ship, rail car and truck. This logistics innovation continues to influence global production and distribution of goods. US Secretary of Transportation, Norman Mineta, recognized McLean as a man of vision, Forbes magazine wrote that he is "one of the few men who changed the world," and the International Maritime Hall of Fame named McLean, Man of the Century.

Malcom P. McLean Scholarship is made possible through the generous support of the Malcom P. McLean Foundation. Every yearone incoming School of PublicPolicy TPOL master's student is awarded a two-year, $15,000 Malcom P. McLean Scholarship. Recipients are selected based on academic record and prior work experience and must be US citizens or permanent residents.
