Stephen Ruth
Director, International Center for Applied Studies
in Information Technology
The George Mason School of Public Policy has worked with nearly 100 businesses, non-profit organizations, foundations, and research centers in more than 30 countries to deploy and use information and communication technology in a strategic way through the International Center for Applied Studies in Information Technology (ICASIT). The center is one of the most important ways the School commits resources and its vast expertise to regional, national, and international communities.
"We put technology to work for people in meaningful ways,'' says Stephen Ruth, director. "We both deliver the infrastructure for Internet connectivity and teach clients how to manage the knowledge that flows from inclusion in the World Wide Web.''
ICASIT provides critical services that help build Internet infrastructure in developing nations and teach those who will use it how to best leverage the information gleaned from new connectivity to the outside world to improve local economies and lives. The center works on five continents in countries such as Argentina, Nepal, Spain, Uganda, and Chile. Domestic clients range from local libraries to major corporations such as Exxon Mobil Corp.
