Kenneth Button
Director, Center for Transportation Policy and Logistics
The George Mason School of Public Policy's Center for Transportation Policy and Logistics is a national leader when it comes to analyzing and synthesizing issues of traffic management and infrastructure, best practices for the use of information technology in transportation matrices, and improving safety and efficiency in the nation's aviation operations.
The center also houses the Center for Aerospace Policy Research, which is underwritten in part by a multiyear contract worth tens of millions of dollars with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Among other things, center faculty and staff manage NASA's Engineering Training Program and explore the needs of space stations in the future. Additionally, the center serves as a home to the National Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Research Center. The ITS Center is one of 33 transportation centers funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation and is only one of two devoted exclusively to intelligent transportation systems.
"The center's team of faculty, researchers, and student scholars draw on extensive experience within the field and the latest advancements in technology to explore ways to more efficiently and securely move people, products, and freight,'' says Kenneth Button, director.
The center facilitates research into a wide range of policy issues relating to transportation, including, but not limited to, security, the delivery of emergency services, road pricing, and regional traffic congestion.
