Jean Paelinck received his Ph.D. from Liege University and did postgraduate studies with Nobel Prize Economist, Richard Stone, at Cambridge. Paelinck has published more than 55 books and over 300 papers in refereed journals. His early research in economic modeling evolved toward spatial econometrics in the 1970s. His book (with Leo Klaasen) Spatial Economics is considered a classic in regional science. Paelinck holds seven honorary doctorates and has been honored by the President of the Regional Science Associations.
