Professor Mark Rozell presented his paper “The Religious Right and Contemporary Politics” at the Future of the American Right Conference at Oxford University, May 8–10, 2008.

Professor Jack A. Goldstone presented "Improving Democracy Assistance: Building Knowledge through Evaluations and Research" at the National Academy of Sciences on Friday, May 9.  This Academy study, chaired by Goldstone, is intended to guide USAID's research on democracy assistance, stressing evidence-based research.  In the next few weeks, the full report will be published by the National Academy Press and private briefings at USAID will follow.

Affiliate Professor Frank Manheim presented “U.S. Energy and Environmental Policy” to the Active Retirees Group at Beth El Hebrew Congregation on April 30, 2008.

Professor Ann Baker was invited to speak to the Knowledge Management Advisory Team at the National Science Foundation in Arlington, Virginia, on April 21, 2008. Baker discussed School of Public Policy (SPP) activity in Knowledge Management, the organization development and knowledge management master’s program, and her knowledge management research.

Professor Laurie Schintler presented “Before the Housing Bubble Burst: Exploring the Spatiotemporal Context” as part of the School of Public Policy Faculty Brown Bag Talks on April 10, 2008, on Mason’s Arlington Campus.

PhD students Kadri Kallas and Ryan Zelnio were members of the organizing committee for this year’s Science and Technology in Society: An Interdisciplinary Graduate Student Conference held at the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Washington, D.C., on April 5 and 6, 2008. This conference, now in its eighth year with partners from the Washington, D.C., area and beyond, offers an opportunity to hear from senior policymakers and learn about national and international research. Professor David Hart was advisor to the students organizing the conference.
