Dedication Ceremony of Statue

The Confucian Academy of Hong Kong presented George Mason University with a highly valued statue of Confucius earlier this month. Mason was selected because of the extensive educational, philosophical, and business relations and partnerships between the Mason Enterprise Center (MEC) at the School of Public Policy (SPP) and various universities, businesses, and municipalities across China.

The bronze statue is approximately 11 feet tall and weighs two tons. Keith Segerson, assistant dean for SPP and managing director of MEC, facilitated the donation of the statue, including the initial negotiations, the shipment from China, and the placement on Mason's Fairfax Campus.

On April 9, a dedication ceremony took place at Mason Pond. Faculty and staff from the MEC, University Facilities, the Office of International Programs and Services, the Department of Modern and Classical Languages, and the Office of the Provost put together a day full of events and a welcome dinner. The Chinese delegation from the Confucian Academy and Qingdao, China, included academy president Tong Yun Kai. The statue is on permanent display on the Fairfax Campus across from the Center for the Arts.
