The SPP POLIgraph: Learning the Truth about Alison M. White, SPP Alumni Chapter President

The SPP POLIgraph is a brief interview that reveals the "truths" about a School of Public Policy (SPP) faculty or staff member, student, or alumnus.

As president of the SPP Alumni Chapter, what are you most excited about in the coming year for the chapter?

We're trying to kick things up a notch! We want to provide even more opportunities for alumni to connect with their favorite faculty members, the Arlington Campus, and current students, and, of course, to demonstrate their continuing support for the school.

Travel Time:
At What Cost?

What is a shorter commute to work worth to you? Stephen Fuller, director, and John McClain, deputy director, of the Center for Regional Analysis (CRA) conducted a study of Northern Virginia commuters in summer 2006 that looked at this question.

CRA administered two surveys—one to workers in the Fredericksburg, Virginia, region—about 60 miles south of Washington, D.C.—who commute north to destinations inside the Beltway and a second survey directed at commuters who reside in Prince William and southern Fairfax counties and commute to the Washington and the close-in suburbs.

SPP Students and Alumni Learn about the Competitive Edge

On September 18, School of Public Policy (SPP) students Sarah Bonner, David Lee, Jitesh Singh, Marinela Arresi, David Olave, and Jessica Arnold, and alumni Gemal Brangman, Edythe Artman, and Judy Lao served as volunteer staff at the U.S. Department of Commerce’s inaugural Summit on American Competitiveness at the Ronald Reagan Center in Washington, D.C. The summit highlighted America’s need to advance strategies to keep the United States on the competitive edge in the 21st-century worldwide marketplace.
