Awards and Honors

Professor Zoltan Acs was awarded an “Honoris Causa Doctor” from the University of Pecs in Hungary. Acs was recognized for his scholarly work and data development activity on the General Entrepreneurship Monitor, his work on the economics of entrepreneurship, and his contribution to the development of an entrepreneurship program in economics and business at the university.

Douglas A. Brook (PhD ’01) was elected to the National Academy of Public Administration. Other SPP members of NAPA are Dean Kingsley Haynes, Professor A. Lee Fritschler, Professor James Pfiffner, and Professor Susan Tolchin.

Professor Andrew Hughes Hallett is ranked the number-one Virginia author by RePEc. Rankings are affected by publications, citations, and downloads of papers. Institutions and authors that are ranked are registered with EDIRC and the RePEc Author Service.

Professor Connie McNeely received a National Science Foundation award of $33,366 (for one year) to support development of a research agenda for science, technology, and methods women (STMW) in leadership. In addition, her grant, titled “Policy Diffusion and Organizational Effects on STMW in Higher Education,” received an award of $845,277 for three years—the largest-ever award to an SPP faculty member. This research award contributes to the scholarly and intellectual activity at SPP and financially supports investigators (faculty) and two doctoral students for three years.


Stough
Associate Dean and Mason Enterprise Center Director Roger R. Stough was awarded the “Honoris Causa Doctor” from the Jonkoping International Business University in Sweden. He was recognized for his scholarship in regional economic development and his assistance in the development of a new PhD program at the university.
