Six Doctoral
Students Receive Research Grants
SPP has
awarded six students with doctoral research grants,
funded by money provided by the Provost for
the doctoral program. The recipients are:
Shaoming Cheng,
for his paper presentation, The Role of Labor
Cost in the Location Choices of Japanese Investors
in China, at the North American Regional Science
Council Annual Meeting in Seattle. |

Watkins, for her paper presentation,
School Type and the Achievement Gap: Do Charter
Schools Really Make a Difference?, at the
Association for Public Policy Analysis and
Management Annual Research Conference in
Atlanta.

Cathy Elrod,
for her poster presentation, Individuals with
Chronic and/or Disabling Conditions: Determinants
of Physical Rehabilitation Services, at the Association
for Public Policy Analysis and Management Annual
Research Conference in Atlanta. |

Xiaoxia Liu,
for her paper presentation, An Investigation
of Broadband Internet Subscription Using a
Dynamic Demand Model, at the North American
Regional
Science Council Annual Meeting in Seattle;
and for the purchase of data from the American
Electronics Association, eMarketer and ESRI. |
Yinglee Tseng,
for her paper presentation, The Prospect of Regional
Trade Agreements in Multilateral Context, at
the 100th Annual Conference of the American Political
Science Association in Chicago. |

Lei Ding, for
his paper presentation, The Role of Telecommunications
Infrastructure in Regional Economic Growth in China,
at the Telecommunication Policy Research Conference,
the North American Regional Science Council Annual
Meeting in Seattle, and the Institute for Operational
Research and Management Science (INFORMS) annual
meeting.
A total of $40,000 has been earmarked
for doctoral research grants, intended to help students
with the
collection of original data, the purchase of
data sets and travel costs related to presenting
at conferences.
So far, $7,930 has been awarded to students.
