Best-Selling Author And SPP Professor Awarded International Creativity Award

Richard Florida, author of the 2002 New York Times best-seller, “The Rise of the Creative Class,” and Hirst Professor of economics at SPP, was recently presented with the Sid Parnes Pioneer Award by the Creative Education Foundation.

Dr. Ron Hira's Hot-Button New Book
A new book written by Ron Hira, who received his Ph.D. from SPP in 2002 and is now a public policy professor at Rochester Institute of Technology, and his brother Anil, a political scientist at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, has received considerable media attention since its release on May 30, 2005.

SPP’s Study Abroad Programs
This summer, SPP offered two Study Abroad programs which enabled students to earn three credits in two weeks while experiencing a new culture. For the first time, a program of study in South Africa was offered.

School Of Public Policy Exceeds Enrollment Goals
George Mason’s School of Public Policy has seen enrollments increase by more than 10% this year; that means a growth of 55 full-time students.

Is There Bias In The Classroom?
SPP Professors A. Lee Fritschler, Catherine Rudder and Jeremey Mayer, along with Frischler’s former colleague from the Brookings Institute, Bruce L. R. Smith, a retired Columbia University professor, have been given a $100,000 grant to examine the role that political and religious ideology plays on campus.

Truman Scholars At SPP
24 Truman scholars—elite recent college graduates, chosen by the Truman Foundation to intern at various government agencies and non-profits in the DC area over the summerwill take a year-long class at SPP.

SPP Professor Jeremy Mayer Discusses The Filibuster On PBS
SPP Professor Jeremy D. Mayer, a political scientist, was one of two guest experts who appeared May 16, 2005 on "The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer" to discuss the Senate’s attempt to filibuster over the president’s judicial nominees.

Mark Rozell Appears On Several Local News Shows
Mark Rozell, professor of public policy and director of the SPP Masters program, was busy over the summer keeping George Mason’s name alive in local media outlets. He appeared on WAMU’s "Kojo Nnamdi Show" to discuss state politics on June 6, 2005.

Faculty Member Spends Part Of Summer "In Jail"
During July and August, SPP Professor Mark Addleson was a visiting lecturer at the Graduate School of Business, University of Cape Town, South Africa—most likely the only business school in the world which was originally a prison.

In The NewsSusan Tolchin
Professor Susan Tolchin appeared on Lou Dobbs’ CNN show on July 11 to discuss the ramifications of the interest shown by a Chinese company—of which the Chinese government owns a 70 percent share—in the U.S. oil company Unocal.
