SCHOOL OF PUBLIC POLICY EXCEEDS ENROLLMENT GOALS

George Mason’s School of Public Policy has seen enrollments increase by more than 10% this year; that means a growth of 55 full-time students. "Many more students took us as their first choice this year," Dean Kingsley Haynes said during the first faculty meeting. "And yet regardless of that, class sizes will be kept small." The school welcomed 280 new students this fall: 21 will be working towards a Ph.D., 259 getting their Masters or Certificates. Jim Finkelstein, Senior Associate Dean for Administration, had this to say during the meeting: "The success we’ve had this year in terms of recruitments of students—and faculty—has been phenomenal."

SPP was also the first and only unit within the university to reach its enrollment target (exclusive of contract courses) for Fall 2005—a number that is even more impressive given that SPP also accepted over a 9% increase in non-contract targets.
