Students Study
Policy in Oxford and China More than
50 students participated in the School of Public
Policy’s (SPP) summer study abroad
programs to Oxford and China. Through meetings with leading business executives,
representatives of government think tanks and high-ranking
officials, the program enabled participants to get
an inside look at how these countries dealt with policy
issues. In addition to taking classes, students were
treated to lectures by leading academics and business
people, and also met with political and social leaders. While
the program in China focused on the host country’s
emerging global economy, the Oxford program addressed
wider global issues, according to Professor Desmond
Dinan, director of the International Commerce and
Policy (ICP) program. “We work hard to put together quality programs
that not only are academically challenging and insightful
but also culturally rich with opportunities for participants
to network and experience many different aspects of
the country,” said Michal McElwain, director
of external programs for ICP.
SPP will offer several study abroad programs in summer
2005. In addition, study trips are scheduled to India
over Winter Break and to Mexico over Spring Break.
