Mason Enterprise Center Updates
School of Public Policy Dean Kingsley Haynes recently named Keith Segerson the assistant dean for research administration and outreach for the School of Public Policy.

The MEC welcomes Dr. Jim Poisant, a former faculty member in Mason’s School of Management and executive with EDS and Disney, who will be helping the Center with a new program.

Peace Operations Policy Program (POPP) Faculty Engages in Research Activities around the World
Peace Operations Policy Program Director David Davis and Allison Frendak-Blume, an adjunct and research professor, are currently helping NATO evaluate patrols in Bosnia and Kosovo.

Ford Foundation Funds Wedel Project Developing Consultant's Code of Conduct
Thanks to an $180,000 grant from the Ford Foundation, Dr. Janine R. Wedel, an anthropologist and professor of public policy, will help develop a code of conduct and mechanisms for increased accountability for private economic consultants to governments around the world.

Marc Thibault Awarded the Bonder Scholarship
School of Public Policy Ph.D. candidate Marc Thibault received the Bonder Scholarship for 2003.

EVENTS
Students Participate in Study Abroad Program at Oxford University
Thirty-five students earned three credits while attending the School of Public Policy's 11th Annual Oxford study abroad program this year from July 27 through August 9.

School of Public Policy Faculty, Students Participate in APPAM Conference
The 25th Annual Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management’s (APPAM) research conference is set for November 6-8 in Washington, D.C., and will include the participation of many faculty members and doctoral students of the School of Public Policy.

Armor’s Maximizing Intelligence Published
Public policy Professor David J. Armor’s new book Maximizing Intelligence, released in July by Transaction Publishing, looks at children’s educational development,
and argues that, while both genetics and environment play a role in a child’s intelligence, environmental factors, especially at an early age, play a vital role.

Gifford’s New Book Examines Community Transportation Planning
In his new book Flexible Urban Transportation, published in April by Pergamon Press, public policy Associate Professor Jonathan L Gifford reassesses American highway and transit policy, which for the last half-century has been fixated on the Interstate highway system and its aftermath.
