Protection
Several faculty members and a doctoral candidate from the School of Public
Policy (SPP) are collaborating with George Mason's Law School on a project
to enhance the security
of cyber networks and economic processes supporting the nation's critical

Center for Applied Studies in Information Technology recently announced
a grant to Mahodol University, near Bangkok, Thailand, to stimulate the

awarded a $2,000 scholarship from Virginia Association of Realtors.

Centers
The U.S.
Small Business Administration (SBA) recently awarded a $1.9 million
grant to School of Public Policy's Mason Enterprise Center (MEC) to host
the network of Virginia small business development centers (VSBDC).

Recognizing the value of academic
cooperation across universities, George Mason University President
Alan Merten and Vice-Admiral Paul G. Gaffney, president of the National
Defense University (NDU) have fostered a relationship between the two
schools expanding research and curriculum collaboration.

Masters Students Gather for Orientation
The School of Public Policy hosted about 75 new masters students at its
Spring
orientation Wednesday, January 15 at the Arlington campus. The evening
began at 5:30 p.m. with a reception, giving the new students a chance
to mingle with their professors and fellow students.
Students
Gain International Insight during Mexico Study Trip
From January 11 through 19, 35 students from four degree programs in the
School of Public Policy (SPP) examined the cultural, political, economic,
and legal aspects of conducting
business in Mexico through an SPP study abroad program.Though special
attention was given to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)
and relations between the United States and Mexico, lecture topics also
included trends in international trade and investment, the environment,
the state of the Mexican economy, and the political structure and climate
in Mexico.

Paul J. DeMaio,
a student in the Transportation Policy, Operations and Logistics master's
program, has published an article in the winter 2003 issue of Transportation
Quarterly.
Public
Works Management and Policy Journal Now Headquartered at SPP
The technical, professional journal for the American Public Works Association,
Public
Works Management and Policy, will now be headquartered at George
Mason University's School of Public Policy. The peer-reviewed journal
provides a place for the publication of research and practice in transportation,
infrastructure and the environment and creates a dialogue between academics
and practitioners examining public infrastructure issues.
