Grant Provides Large Scale Funding for School of Public Policy
Thanks to a renewed grant from the Federal
Aviation Administration (FAA), the School of Public Policy (SPP) will
continue to present a series of meetings for foreign ministers of transportation
and heads of aviation authorities to enhance their safety and security.
School
of Public Policy Initiates Alumni Chapter
On November 6, the School of Public Policy passed a key milestone on its
way to formally establishing an alumni chapter. Alumni Chris Jones and
Dione Sharmin presented the proposed SPP
alumni chapter by-laws to the George Mason University Alumni Association
for its approval, which the association accepted.

Launches Internships for Student Entrepreneurs
Thanks to a $70,000 grant from the Kauffman Foundation, the School
of Public Policy's Mason Enterprise Center (MEC) is offering George
Mason students the opportunity to hone their entrepreneurial interests
and skills through internships with area start-up technology companies.
Transportation
Program Initiates Interactive TV Courses with Montana Department of Transportation
Thanks to an ongoing arrangement with the Virginia Department of Transportation
(VDOT), the School
of Public Policy's master's in transportation policy, operations and
logistics will expand this spring to offer courses via interactive television
technology to students in Helena, Montana.

Hoban, SPP Fellow, Dies
Frank
Hoban, a School of Public Policy Senior Fellow, died of a heart ailment
in Gettysburg , Pennsylvania, on December 5th.

On Thursday, November 21,
Senator Charles S. Robb, distinguished professor of law and public
policy, moderated a panel that addressed questions involving the USA Patriot
Act.

Hosts NSA Director, Gridlock Program, Reagan Documentary
Lt. Gen. Michael Hayden, director of the National Security Agency, made
a rare public appearance November 12 at George Mason as part of an "open
conversation" with Frank Sesno, professor with the School of
Public Policy.

Policy Honors Lavoie at Tree Planting Ceremony
On November 6, faculty, staff and students of the School of Public Policy
and friends of SPP
Professor Donald C. Lavoie gathered on the George Mason Fairfax campus
to dedicate a tree in Lavoie's name.
