School Reaches
and Exceeds Enrollment Goals
The School of Public Policy announced the final numbers for applications
and new
student enrollment for spring semester 2002.

Policy Graduate Selected as Dean of Naval Postgraduate School
Douglas A. Brook, a 2001 graduate of the Ph.D. program in public policy
at George Mason, recently began his new position as Dean
of the School of Business and Public Policy at the Naval Postgraduate
School in Monterey, California.
New Masters of Public Policy Program Moving Ahead;
First Graduate to Finish in Fall
In January the Virginia State Council for Higher Education officially
approved the masters of public policy program at George Mason, and now
the program's
first graduate will finish in August.

Enterprise Center (BEC), part of the School of Public Policy's Mason
Enterprise Center, has recently completed an evaluation and business plan
to expand its services.

Transportation Program Helps Develop Trans-Atlantic Links
The STELLA/STAR
initiative is a three year collaborative effort establishing trans-Atlantic
links between transportation professionals from Europe and the United
States.

Washington University Partner on Two New Projects
George Mason's International Center for Applied Studies in Information
Technology (ICASIT) and George Washington University's Schools of Business
and Public Management and Engineering Management announced at a luncheon
on February 27 a partnership
on two projects.
Techventure Partnership
Expands Service and Relocates to Fairfax Campus
The Techventure
Partnership, a joint venture of the School of Public Policy's Mason
Enterprise Center and the Center for Information Technology (CIT) is relocating
its offices to GMU's Fairfax campus.
Grant Enables ICASIT to Facilitate JSTOR in Developing
Countries
As part of a continuing grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation,
the International Center for Applied Studies in Information Technology
(ICASIT) has been working to link universities in developing nations to
JSTOR, a major
research tool that the Mellon Foundation introduced in 1995.
Interest in Education
Drives Ph.D. Candidate's Research
When Susan
Aud started taking classes toward her Ph.D. in public policy in the
fall of 1997, professors asked the students to subscribe to journals and
read up on research areas that interested them. To decide which policy
arena to familiarize herself with, she didn't have to look very far.

in African Development Forum
Public Policy Professor Kenneth Button traveled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
in early March to present a paper at the third African
Development Forum.
School of Public
Policy Co-Hosted Conference on International Governance of New Technologies
The George Mason University School of Public Policy and the Johns Hopkins
School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) co-hosted a two-day conference,
"International
Governance of New Technologies," on Monday, February 11 and Tuesday,
February 12.

Former NASA Chief Health
and Medical Officer Joins Public Policy Faculty
Arnauld
Nicogossian, MD, a Senior Advisor to the Administrator at NASA, joins
the School of Public Policy this year as a distinguished visiting professor.
Petersen Is New
Tenured Full Professor
Professor John
Petersen joins the public policy faculty this semester as a full professor.
He will be teaching classes on International Finance and Globalization
and U.S. Government Financial Systems.
Professor Paelinck
Continues Collaboration with School of Public Policy
Professor Jean
Paelinck, a retired member of the faculty at the University of Erasmus
in Rotterdam, Netherlands, again is on the George Mason campus this semester,
working with the School of Public Policy for this his fifth visit since
1996.
Woodcock Joins
Faculty as Research Professor
Dr. Ted Woodcock
recently joined the public policy faculty at George Mason as a research
professor.

Released Book
School of Public Policy Professor Jack High is the editor of a
new collection of economists' writings on the subject of competition.
Professor Susan
Tolchin's New Book Released
Public Policy Professor
Susan Tolchin's new book, Glass Houses: Congressional Ethics and
the Politics of Venom, written with her husband, journalist Martin
Tolchin, was released in September 2001.
