Name: Heather Hamilton, Director of Arlington Campus Relations for Graduate and Professional Student Association (GAPSA); Office Manager for On-Site Energy (a geothermal engineering firm in the Virginia area)

School of Public Policy (SPP) Program of Study:
Transportation Policy, Operations, and Logistics (TPOL)

Undergraduate Degree: Ithaca College '06, Political Science

Why Mason’s SPP: I chose George Mason because I wanted to attend a leading public university in the DC area. My experience at George Mason has been amazing. The administration has been friendly, professional and, best of all, pro-active. I have gained so much from my professors, the material, and my class mates. I knew the Transportation Policy, Operations and Logistics concentration was suited for me because I wanted to specialize in an area that effects many people and many businesses. It is a fusion of history, politics and engineering that focuses on cutting edge topics like transit-oriented development, smart growth, and congestion pricing.

Memorable SPP Moment: I participated in the China study abroad experience SPP offers. I will cherish that experience and highly encourage others to attend one of the trips. I met other Policy students and made tight bonds with many of my fellow students. I saw incredible sights, people, culture, and methods of transportation. I will value this experience throughout my career.

Academic/Career Interests: I decided to go back to school because I am interested in the transportation of goods and people. My goal is to make transportation more efficient and effective in the future. Being a Maine native, I hope to one day manage a public transit authority in the Portland area.
