Students in the Organization Development and Knowledge Management program (ODKM) develop the capacity to evaluate, affect, and manage change in government, corporate, and nonprofit organizations undergoing rapid changes.
By enabling students to understand the shift from hierarchical structures to group-based learning, the ODKM program promotes leadership in the creation of adaptive, collaborative work environments fit for the 21st century.
In addition to the human and social aspects of organizing, the program also emphasizes the use of collaborative technologies to support interactive learning, knowledge sharing, and knowledge creation.
In fact, while other graduate programs remain committed solely to traditional OD practices, George Mason’s program has responded to the marketplace by incorporating knowledge management practices into organization development.
George Mason’s unique cohort program is offered in an executive format with classes held on Friday evenings and Saturdays on alternating weekends.

The Organization Development and Knowledge Management program prepares graduates for positions of increased responsibility and leadership in a variety of areas, such as consulting, organizational development, knowledge management, personnel and human resources management, information technology, business process redesign, organizational change management, and project management.

Creating Learning Organizations
Reevaluate traditional management approaches in light of global economies, instantaneous communication, changing technologies, and diverse workgroups in knowledge societies. Develop skills for “double- and triple-loop learning” and reflection.
Strategic Knowledge Management
An in-depth look at the distinction between technology-oriented knowledge management practices and people-oriented ones, with an emphasis on leveraging and sharing knowledge to get work done well and develop more effective organizations.
Consulting Skills for Organizational Change
Explore various theories and practices of change management, collaborative consulting, action research, and organization development. Students combine their understanding of organization development, values, and personal style to perform effectively in consulting roles.
Group Dynamics and Team Learning
Develop various competencies to facilitate team learning for organizational effectiveness by exploring various aspects of group dynamics such as power, perception, motivation, leadership, emotional and appreciative intelligence, and decision making.
