Topic 8: Student Mentors

Current PhD students who are further along in the program volunteer to serve as student mentors to incoming PhD students. These mentors will help answer questions about the program, provide unofficial advice regarding classes and professors, and help you adjust to life as an SPP doctoral student. In early to mid-August, you will receive an email with the name and email address of your mentor. All mentors are invited to the fall retreat evening social hour, so you may have a chance to meet your mentor then.

SPP tuition for in-state students is approximately half the cost of the tuition at private competitors in the D.C. area.

Employer information sessions are offered each semester with public, private, and nonprofit organizations such as the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, RAND, Third Way, and the Department of Treasury.

More than 70% of SPP students are employed while pursuing their degrees -- classes are offered in the late afternoon and early evening to accommodate full- and part-time students.
