Master's Academic Advising

The School of Public Policy's Office of Student Services provides professionally delivered academic advising to all master's students. Upon admission, students are assigned to an academic advisor who will serve in that capacity for the duration of their program. Student Services provides counsel on the full range of academic issues including:

  • Course selection and program planning
  • Registration issues
  • Academic concerns
  • Degree progress
  • Transfer credit requests
  • The interpretation of academic policies
  • Resource referrals

The Office of Student Services also conducts degree audits and monitors student compliance with academic policies and procedures. Advisors collaborate frequently with the associate director of Career Development to aid students in matching their academic plan with their professional aspirations.

SPP tuition for in-state students is approximately half the cost of the tuition at private competitors in the D.C. area.

Employer information sessions are offered each semester with public, private, and nonprofit organizations such as the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, RAND, Third Way, and the Department of Treasury.

More than 70% of SPP students are employed while pursuing their degrees -- classes are offered in the late afternoon and early evening to accommodate full- and part-time students.
