    Center Description
The State Economic Development Center is the George Mason School of Public Policy's clearinghouse for training and research intended to help public officials in Virginia and elsewhere devise policies that develop regional economies and improve the quality of life. The center sponsors roundtable discussions, survey research, statistical analyses, and formal focus groups to better inform state, provincial, and local authorities about the potential influence of policies they have implemented, while identifying more effective alternatives.

While the center's primary purpose is to help Virginia agencies and officials, it does work with other state and provincial governments within the United States and around the world, with an emphasis in China, India, and Europe.

Faculty have received grants from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Science Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and are Fulbright Scholars and Mellon Fellowship recipients.

In 2009 and 2010, the School’s 45 faculty produced 16 books, 78 book chapters, 23 edited volumes, and 203 refereed journal articles.
