Auerswald co-edits fall issue of Innovations
Professor Philip E. Auerswald co-edited the fall issue of the journal Innovations, published by MIT Press.  The November 2009 issue, "Energy for Change: Creating Climate Solutions," includes essays by White House Science Advisor John Holdren and 2005 Nobel Laureate in Economics Thomas Schelling.

Rozell contributes to symposium opinion piece for National Review
Professor Mark J. Rozell and Mitchell A. Sollenberger contributed to the symposium opinion piece "Year One in the Age of Obama," which appeared in the National Review on November 4.

Fritschler and Rudder write article for new journal, World Medical and Health Policy
Professors A. Lee Fritschler and Catherine Rudder wrote the article, "U.S.A. Tobacco Control: Six Lessons in Public Policy for Medical Science Professionals," which appears in volume 1, no. 1 of the fall 2009 issue of World Medical and Health Policy journal.

Professor James P. Pfiffner's book, Torture as Public Policy: Restoring the U.S. Credibility on the World Stage, was published by Paradigm, October 2009.

Rozell co-writes piece about the presidency for Roll Call
Professor Mark J. Rozell co-wrote with Mitchell A. Sollengerger "Beware of the Collapse of the 'Open Presidency,'" which appeared in the October 29 Roll Call. The authors write about congressional access to White House czars and the balance of power.

Dean Kingsley Haynes, Research Instructor Rajendra Kulkarni, and Vice President Roger Stough wrote the chapter “Hidden Order in Traffic Flows Using Approximate Entropy: An Illustration” in the book, New Directions in Regional Economic Development, published by Springer-Verlag, 2009.

Kulkarni, Stough, and Haynes write chapter for Complexity and Spatial Networks
Research Instructor Rajendra G. Kulkarni, Vice President Roger R. Stough, and Dean Kinsley E. Haynes wrote the chapter “Algorithmic Complexity and Spatial Simplicity” in the book, Complexity and Spatial Networks (eds. A. Reggiani and P. Nijkamp), published by Springer-Verlag, 2009.

Stough, Kulkarni, Haynes, and Schintler write about U.S. housing bubble
Vice President Roger R. Stough, Research Instructor Rajendra Kulkarni, Dean Kingsley Haynes, and Professor Laurie Schintler wrote “Exploring the U.S. Housing Bubble with K-entropy and PCA.” Stough presented the paper to the 49th European Congress of the Regional Science International in Lodz, Poland in August, 2009.

Haynes, Kulkarni, Stough, and Schintler publish in Proceedings of World Multi-Conference
Dean Kingsley E Haynes, Research Instructor Rajendra G. Kulkarni, Vice President Roger R. Stough, and Professor Laurie Schintler wrote “Exploring a Region Classifier Based on Kolmogorov.” The peer-reviewed paper was published as part of the proceedings at the 13th World Multi-Conference on Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics, 2009.

Stabile publishes in Politics and the Life Sciences
Adjunct Professor Bonnie Stabile published "What's the Matter with Kansas? Legislative Debates Over Stem Cell Research in Kansas and Massachusetts" in Politics and the Life Sciences , volume 28, no. 1.

Hart and Acs write report released by U.S. Small Business Administration
Professors David Hart and Zoltan Acs wrote with Spencer Tracy, Jr. the report “High-tech Immigrant Entrepreneurship in the United States.” According to the study, sixteen percent of high-impact, high-tech firms have at least one immigrant founder. The report was released in July by the Office of Advocacy of the U. S. Small Business Administration. For a complete copy of the report, visit www.sba.gov/advo.

Ruth publishes in Computing Now
Professor and Director of the International Center for Applied Studies in Information Technology, Stephen Ruth, wrote the article "Green IT – More Than a Three Percent Solution?" which was published by IEEE Computer Society in its July/August issue of Computing Now.

Rajan – Managing Editor of new journal
Professor Ramkishen S. Rajan is managing editor of the forthcoming Journal of International Commerce Economics and Policy (JICEP), published by World Scientific. School of Public Policy Professors Andrew Hughes Hallett and Ken Reinert are members of the editorial board. According to the journal’s web site, JICEP "seeks to publish high-quality research papers that explore important dimensions of the global economic system."

Rajan co-authors Exchange Rate Regimes and Macroeconomic Management in Asia
Professor Ramkishen Rajan co-wrote with T. Cavoli Exchange Rate Regimes and Macroeconomic Management in Asia which was published by Hong Kong University Press.

Fritschler publishes in Phi Kappa Phi Forum
Professor A. Lee Fritschler's article "Campus Engagement in Civic Education Weak: Opportunities and Challenges Exist on Many Fronts" will appear in Phi Kappa Phi Forum, volume 89, no. 3.

Ranked, by the National Science Foundation, as the number one program in its field for federal and total research expenditures.

Faculty have received grants from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Science Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and are Fulbright Scholars and Mellon Fellowship recipients.

In 2007 and 2008, The School’s 45 faculty produced 21 books, 61 book chapters, 14 edited volumes, and 75 refereed journal articles.

For 2007 and 2008 The School’s sponsored research expenditures totaled $17 million, faculty submitted 179 proposals, and The School supported 43 doctoral students.

Research per full-time faculty member for FY 07-08 totaled $123,030, making SPP among the largest funded in the university.
