The program began in fall 2000 in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and subsequently expanded to multiple sites in Virginia. Students participate in classes via interactive video teleconferencing sites at VDOT district offices and the MDT. Classes originate at George Mason University's Arlington campus.
Late afternoon and evening classes are designed to accommodate both part-time and full-time students. Distance-learning students are often able to take classes conveniently at or near their work sites. Fall and spring enrollment is available. In addition to our outstanding faculty, the program draws on the abundant resources of the nation’s capital and utilizes expert lecturers from federal agencies, the World Bank, the Transportation Research Board, the National Academy of Sciences and the transportation industry.
Addition of new sites: The TPOL program would be happy to consider the addition of new locations for delivery of the program. Determination of the feasibility of new locations depends on a variety of factors, including facility and equipment availability, scheduling, time zone differences, and the number of students. Inquiries about the addition of new sites should be directed to the program director at spp@gmu.edu.
