The Master of Public Policy (MPP) program is designed to produce astute policy professionals who will move rapidly into leadership positions in the policy world. The strong analytical approach of the program develops skills in problem-solving and research methods, and ensures familiarity with economic concepts and applications.

Students learn practical qualitative and quantitative research skills and functional approaches to policy analysis and decision-making.

Ethical considerations in policy making are incorporated throughout the curriculum. The program has a robust international emphasis to ensure that graduates think comparatively and globally about policy processes and problems.

Students tackle a wide range of issues, including

  • The quality of institutional governance in specific venues
  • The range of quantitative methods used for public policy analysis
  • How theory and ethics influence public policy making

 Governance and Policy Processes
Assess governance processes in public and private organizational settings on the basis of efficiency, accountability, and responsiveness to societal needs in a rapidly changing global environment.

 U.S. Financial Policy Processes and Procedures
Examine design and operation of expenditure and revenue systems at federal, state, and local levels of U.S. government. Emphasis on mobilizing and allocating resources through budget planning, adoption, and execution.

Policy and Organizational Analysis
Engage in systematic analysis, both qualitative and quantitative, with an emphasis on research design, information acquisition, application of data analysis techniques, and presentation, including writing for professional and lay audiences.

Culture, Organization, and Technology
Focus on the influence of culture in societal, political, economic, and technological processes, nationally and internationally. Learn pertinent approaches to the study of culture and develop practical skills in observation, participation, and intervention.
